A safe and sustainable food system is possible and available. More needs to be done to encourage such a market.
Most agree that we need our food to be both, yet the U.S. Senate still hasn’t acted and our food-safety system is vulnerable. Deaths from eating ordinary food such as spinach and peanut butter have not only made it clear that we need a more sustainable food production system but associated impact on the health of our population due to chemically tainted and genetically altered foods has not, in my opinion, been fully addressed to include proper regulatory and enforceable guidelines and controls to protect consumers.
Please encourage and be reminded of more diverse and local food sources as opposed to big factory farms. Maybe the money you save by staying healthy will cost a lot less than getting sick from eating the wrong thing. Think of it as playing your part in fighting against high health care cost.
