Study shows Verizon hasn’t paid a cent in taxes in three years. If a tax exemption existed then how are many cities and town standing when it comes to local franchise licensing. This is something Verizon has been trying to also avoid for years by attempting to move local franchise controls to the state level.
Cable and fiber providers have a mission to make a profit. That bottom line has little to do with community inclusion, open access, citizen participation or social wealth value.
Cities and towns should not be excluding such companies who offer video from local franchise licensing. To do so would be exasperating an already unjust situation.
